A new flagship turntable lands in January, a three-channel flagship mixer is already out, and the software update costs nothing.

If you play vinyl, the question is timing. The SL-1210MKX arrives at selected retailers from January 2027 with no price announced, which means nobody can tell you whether it is good value yet. If you need decks now, used MK7s and MK2s remain the sensible purchase and will stay serviceable for years. If you can wait a quarter, wait, if only to watch what a new flagship does to used prices. If you need a mixer, the DJM-V5 at €1,999 puts four-band EQ and Send FX within reach of a serious home or small-venue setup, with the flagship signal path intact. The honest question is whether you will use four bands. If you mix mostly with a crossfader and a filter, a cheaper two- or three-band mixer will do the job and the difference is better spent elsewhere. If you are building a studio, the software side is where the value is. Live 12.4 is free for Live 12 owners, and Move 2.0 turns an inexpensive box into a four-track recorder with effects on the input. Before any of that, spend on monitoring and on treating the room: every euro there improves everything you make, in a way that no instrument can. The rule we would follow is simple enough to apply in a shop. Buy the thing that removes a specific friction you can name in one sentence. "It would be nice to have" is how gear accumulates and skill does not, and the people with the most impressive studios are rarely the ones finishing the most music.
